A Wedding Quilt

I've just spent another hour enjoying some of the hundreds of entries in the Blogger's Quilt Festival. If you haven't checked it out yet, you're missing out on some beautiful quilts and, in many cases, some very touching quilt stories. Highly recommended for quilters and non-quilters alike! :o)

And in the spirit of quilt-sharing, I thought it was time I got back to posting about some of the projects I've been working on lately. I took quite a long quilting hiatus this summer, but once the kids and I got back into the school routine, I finally ventured back into the sewing room. Since that day, I've hardly had a chance to come up for air (not that I haven't been enjoying it!) As a result, I have several new projects to share over the next few days and weeks -- assuming I can stay away from the sewing machine long enough to post. LoL

For me, fall and quilting just go together. No matter how long I've been away from my sewing room, the drop in temperature, the fall colors, and the appearance of gorgeous fall prints at the fabric store never fail to inspire me to quilt. So when I received an invitation to my dear, dear friend's September bridal shower, it was a great excuse to go fabric shopping! With new fabric in hand, I was back in the swing in no time. Here is a picture of the fall table runner I made for her shower gift:


A pretty, ceramic bowl with a fall-colored fruit design and some yummy apple pie scented candles rounded out the package. Thank you, Kelly and Jeff, for inspiring me with a fall wedding date! LoL

With that small victory under my belt, I decided that, yes, I could complete a wedding quilt for the newlyweds. The wedding was held in early October, so I had a few weeks to quilt and bind a twin-sized sampler top for them. Definitely out of practice, the quilting seemed to take me forever, but I did indeed get it finished in time. The colors don't show up all that well in the photo, but they were pulled from a floral print used in the sampler blocks. The main colors are burgundy and white, with touches of blue and yellow. The outer border and block sashings are a rich burgundy tone-on-tone floral:


Finally, the quilt label was stitched on:


The quilt was finished -- and the wedding was just beautiful! I couldn't be happier for the bride and groom. Both are so deserving of the joy they've brought into each other's lives, and I wish for them many, many wonderful years together. :o)
