Sew & Tell Friday: A Comfort Quilt

I've been making a lot of gifts lately, so haven't been able to share as I go, but there is one I can share today for Amylouwho's Sew & Tell Friday, a gift to my husband's longtime friend and co-worker, who is courageously fighting a battle with cancer.

I fell in love with this pattern during a recent CQUSA mystery (I made a baby quilt, which I can't share quite yet), and for the first time ever, I've made three quilts in a row using the same pattern. It goes together really quickly, is perfect for showcasing larger prints and is very fat quarter friendly.

The full pattern is made up of twelve 18" blocks plus sashing. This one is half that, with only six blocks, measuring approximately 46 x 66 inches.

Countless prayers for our friend are stitched into this quilt, and my hope is that he will feel our love for him whenever he uses it. Our prayers continue for Joel and his family... for strength, for healing, and for peace that passes understanding.

Amen.

That is a beautiful quilt! I love the colors, and it definitely looks masculine. What a gift of love! I hope its recipient is encouraged by it. And I pray he wins his battle!

That's such a great pattern! I love how the big blocks are mixed with small blocks of the printed fabric. What a great gift and what a perfect way to bathe a friend in prayer. Thanks for sharing!

Ms. Heather, the name of the pattern is from the Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publication, Quilts and More. The issue is Spring 2012. It is by Monica Solorio-Snow of Happy Zombie (TheHappyZombie.com). The pattern is called "Taking Turns" and is rated super easy. Thought I would help out your readers with the information. Well, surprise surprise. My 400th blog post! And wouldn't you know it's my first one in three months? (Imagine how many there would be if I weren't the world's worst blogger. My Family Left Me...

UFO Challenge: January Finish!

I've been trying to keep from showing a full photo of this quilt in my weekly updates, just so I could have a big "reveal" with the final post. Finally the time has come! I really didn't think I could do it, but yes, it is finished -- and with a few days to spare. Now I know what I'm capable of if I just set my mind to something! And here it is, my no-longer-a-UFO, hand-appliqued rose quilt... The finished size is approximately 52" x 67." Hard to tell from this picture, but it is a large wallhanging. This photo gives a better size reference: As you can see, I had to pull the couch away from the wall to take the first picture. Some rearranging is in order if it's going to live in this room permanently. That big ball of fluff is our cat, Sarabi, who came to live with us from the shelter last summer.
