Tackle it Tuesday: Taking Down the Wallpaper
I've been meaning to join in the Tackle it Tuesday meme over at 5 Minutes for Mom for quite awhile now. It just seems like a great incentive to get some things done around here, so today is my first Tackle it Tuesday entry!
My kids' school is closed today, not for snow, but for extremely icy roads. We had an unusually warm day yesterday, followed by rain, which froze overnight. Thankfully, I have no errands to run today. But I do have a big project to tackle and I'm getting more nervous by the day about getting it done, as my son has been bringing his stuff home a bit at a time and its really beginning to pile up! It's actually an ongoing project, and if you like, you can read more about it here.
SO, the project today is to scrape the old wallpaper off of my "office" walls. Probably one of my least favorite jobs in the whole wide world. lol Fortunately, the wallpaper only covers about the top two feet of the wall, on three walls.
It took me days to get all of the excess toys out of there and finally have an empty room!
This is the wallpaper that's coming down (it was my youngest son's bedroom since he was a baby):
And this is what I've removed so far. I swear this wallpaper was backed with Super Glue. It took an hour to get this much down:
So that's what I'm tackling today. But first, to get the kids to help me, for just an hour, get the rest of this disaster area we call a home straightened up. We'll see if its all possible... But now at least I have some incentive! ;o)
UPDATE (9:30 p.m.)
I DID IT! And if I hadn't challenged myself with this Tackle it Tuesday post, I honestly don't think I would have finished today. lol This has been a great incentive!
So... here's me, in action:
And here's the "after" photo:
Not too exciting to look at, but such a relief to have finished! Next up, paint, a wallpaper border (no, I haven't lost my mind), and then I can start moving my stuff in. And more organizing...
Oh, as for the kids helping with the other housework, that didn't really happen the way I had planned. It still looks like a disaster area around here, though my 13yo daughter did do the dishes while I was slaving away upstairs. I guess I'll have plenty to do tomorrow if its still too icy to get out and buy paint. They've already cancelled school again for tomorrow. (sigh)
Thanks for all who've stopped by today and offered encouragement. I really did need it, and I look forward to seeing all of your posts, too. ;o)
