Sew & Tell Friday: Baby Fever

Another week has passed and I still don't have a new grandbaby to brag about. Darnit! My poor daughter is two days away from her due date and feels like she's about to burst. Hang in there, baby. It can't be long now!

Meanwhile, t-shirts are ready for baby's big brother and sister when the big day arrives (iron-on embroidered letters)... we are beyond prepared. LoL

Last week I mentioned how I had fallen in love with a certain CQUSA mystery quilt, and made three in a row using the same pattern. Well now I can share the second of the three -- this was the original "mystery quilt."

Starting out, I knew only that I wanted to make a baby girl quilt for my niece's baby shower (she's expecting in November), and that if I used half the number of fabrics called for, I'd get closer to baby quilt size. Here are the fabrics I chose, six fat quarters and Kona white for the sashing:

After cutting, the first step was to make these little 8-1/2" blocks:

Next, the pieced blocks were mixed and matched with the larger cut pieces, and sashing strips were added. I ended up with six 18" blocks, which still seemed a little too large for a baby quilt. I decided to use two of the blocks on the back with two 18" squares of the teddy bear print, and made my first ever reversible quilt. I was pretty amazed at how well everything lined up.

Quilting in progress...

After quilting and binding, and fresh from the dryer. Here's the front (or back):

And the back (or front!):

So cuddly...

...and finished just in time for the baby shower last weekend. So excited to welcome these new little ones into the family. But for now, there's just the waiting, waiting, waiting...

Linking up today with Amylouwho's Sew & Tell Friday!

What a sweet little quilt! I have a few friends with babies on the way, this looks like the perfect pattern to use. I love the idea that it's reversible, too! Your FMQ looks great. I'm new to FMQ but I just love how it looks on your quilt. I need to get practicing!

Such a darling baby quilt! I'll have to remember the pattern it such a great use of fat quarters.

Congrats to you and your family on the new baby coming. I hope she doesn't have to wait to much longer. I remember that feeling!

Love this little quilt. I didn't remember that your daughter had 2 already...I am way behind. I thought she just had a son.

Googled baby quilts and found your site. What a lovely quilt, and I see that it was made two years ago. Now that it's 2014, have you made anymore in with this pattern? Is the pattern available for purchase or can you reveal the name of the pattern?
Enjoy reading your blog and thanks for sharing your lovely creations. I don't have a blog, so I must sign anonymously.

Thank you, Brenda! I have made three quilts using this pattern so far. I love it! I don't have a link to the pattern, as it was a mystery quilt done with a quilting group, but if you want to email me at hmhaapoja (at) gmail (dot) com, I would be happy to send you the instructions. :)
